CBSE 2021 Board Exams Postponed – Updates of Live Webinar with Education Minister

In a recent live webinar on 22nd Dec 2020, Education minister Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal made certain major announcements about CBSE Class X & XII Board Exams 2021. There were several doubts in students and teachers regarding the upcoming CBSE board exams. Union Education Minister tried to give answers to all and made certain clarities.

He addressed queries of teachers and students related with the exams and made some important announcements related with CBSE Board exams dates and reduced syllabus 2021.

No Cancellation of Exams

He said many countries are promoting students without exams in this COVID time but we will not do so, as cancelling exams will result in putting COVID era stamp on these students and they will face difficulties in getting admission in various higher courses and jobs in the future.

Exams not in January and February

He clarified, CBSE Board Class X & XII exams will not be held in January and February as per the current situation. CBSE Practical exams will not be held in January and February. Some other means will be find out to conduct practical exams in schools.

CBSE Board Exam will be in pen and paper mode

On asking question about online mode of exam he clarified that “there still is a small percentage of students who have not got equal access to education. While we have used unique methods to teach students but having such methods for exams might not be fair. We need a laptop and stable internet and electricity for each student which is a challenge.”

He explained teachers in some remote areas are teaching on loudspeakers due to lack of internet access. Teachers made efforts to reach students and impart education. He said board is working upon to correct the issues in the infrastructure.

30% Syllabus cut and 33% internal choice in CBSE Board Exams

No reduction in syllabus is announced as CBSE already reduced its syllabus by 30% and other states are also following the same. There will also be 33% internal choices in the exam, said Mr. Pokhiryal.

Education Minister clarified that no change in JEE Main exam dates will be done but to accommodate the reduced syllabus by boards internal choice will be given in the main exams. Like this, CBSE board exam can also be done.

Major updates of Mr. Pokhriyal’s webinar are

  1. No board exams till February.
  2. Some other ways will be find out to conduct CBSE Board 2021 practical exams in school.
  3. CBSE Boards 2021 final exams will be held in offline mode for Class X & XII.
  4. 30% Syllabus reduction is not to be restricted till CBSE and CISCE, state boards expected to follow suit.
  5. JEE Main to have more internal choices.
  6. CBSE exams 2021 to have the 33% internal choice, as per rules.
