CBSE New Rule: NO Class 10 Student Will Fail In CBSE Board Exams

Education ministry gave a big relief to the Class 10 students by announcing its new rule in marks calculating criteria. According to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) new rule, no class 10 students will fail in CBSE Board exams.ย  If a student fails in any of the three elective subjects โ€“ Science, Mathematics and Social Studies, then the failed subject will be replaced by the โ€˜Skill Subjectโ€™(Offered as a 6th additional subject).

The class 10th percentage will be calculated after this replacement of skill subject with the failed subject. The percentage in class 10 will be based on the performance in best 5 subjects. This decision is welcomed by teachers, students and parents.

Education Minister, Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal during an interaction with CBSE Board announced that โ€œThe report card will not only highlight the merit-based performance of students but also give feedback regarding cognitive social, emotional and practical skills gained by students. The board will focus on capacity building and standardized criterion with a global benchmark.

During the COVID era, millions of students and education sector got affected. Schools premises remains shut for almost 10 months and studies went online, posing a different kind of challenge among students and teachers. This decision by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) comes as a big relief for the student whose studies got affected due to COVID19.

Major Highlight of CBSE New Rule:

  1. If a class 10 student fails in any of the 3 elective subjects โ€“ Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, then the failed subject marks will be replaced by the skill subject marks.
  2. Percentage will calculated after replacement of the subject.
  3. The percentage in class 10 will be based on the performance in best 5 subjects.
  4. Report card will only highlight merit based performance of students.
  5. Report card will also give feedback regarding cognitive social, emotional and practical skills gained by students.
  6. The board will focus on capacity building and standardised criterion with a global benchmark.

Studentโ€™s interest in skill based Learning Program (by CBSE) is increasing year by year. In 2020, where only 20% students chose skill based learning subjects, in 2021 the percentage went up to 30%. This new change in marks calculation criteria gave a new hope to students.ย This decision is come just after the Education minister announcement about the CBSE Board 2021 exam date sheet release date.

The CBSE Board 2021 exam date sheet is going to be released on 2nd Feb 2021. Students are eagerly waiting for the date sheet release and CBSE gave a new relief to the Class 10 students.
