What is SOF- International Mathematics Olympiad?

SOF-IMO is a Mathematics Talent Test conducted to evaluate the studentโ€™s mathematical skills and to motivate them to be better at problem-solving.

The Science Olympiad Foundation is Indiaโ€™s best Olympiad conducting organization that is responsible for the conduct of the SOF-IMO exam every year. The exam is conducted for classes 1-12 at two levels namely, level-1 & level-2.

Who is eligible to sit for SOF- International Mathematics Olympiad?

Every student from Classes 1-12, regardless of their qualifications in academics can sit for the SOF-International Mathematics Olympiad exams, for their corresponding class. However, for the level 2 exam, the following eligibility criteria are set-

  1. At the international level: The top 5% of students, who appeared in the International level 1 of SOF IMO will be eligible to sit for the level 2 exam.
  2. At the state level: top 25 SOF IMO level 1 rank holders from each state and each class can enroll to sit for the level 2 exam.
  3. At the school level:If at least 10 students are appearing for the class, then the class topper with a minimum of 50% qualifying marks in SOF IMO level 1 can sit for the level 2 exam.

*Although the SOF- International Mathematics Olympiad is conducted for classes 1-12 in level 1, the students of only classes 3-12 can sit for the level 2 exam.

When will be SOF- International Mathematics Olympiad conducted?

The Science Olympiad Foundation has already released the date sheet for the level 1 IMO exam session 2024-25 on its official website-ย www.sofworld.org

The level 1 exam will be conducted on three dates at various centers across the globe.

*Students must note that the exam dates will be chosen by their respective school authorities. The exam will commence on the date that the school has selected out of the three dates given below.

Date 1 22nd October, 2024
Date 2 19th November, 2024
Date 3 12th December, 2024

How to register for the SOF- International Mathematics Olympiad?

To enroll for the exam, students can directly connect with their respective school authorities.

*If in case, a studentโ€™s school is not enrolled with the SOF for Olympiad exam conduction, students can fill out the form on theย official website of SOFย and the authorities from SOF will get in touch with the schools for registration.

What is the Exam pattern of the SOF- International Mathematics Olympiad?

The exam pattern for Level 1 of the International Mathematics Olympiad is as follows-

  • The exam will be conducted at the respective schools of the students within the school hours.
  • The paper comprises 35 Objective questions for classes 1st-4thย whereas, for classes 5thย -12th, 50 questions are asked within 1 hour.
  • The four sections in the papers include- Logical Reasoning, Mathematical Reasoning, Everyday Mathematics, and Achievers Section.
  • Each class has independent papers in the English language.
  • The question paper on all the three dates as mentioned above will be different. Hence, there will be 3 sets of papers in the International Mathematics Olympiad.

What is the SOF-IMO syllabus?

If a student is enrolling in the SOF-IMO exam, he/she ย does not have to prepare for a different syllabus. Rather, he/she should try to strengthen class-wise concepts.

The syllabus of IMO is the same as the syllabus of CBSE/ICSE/ State Boards.
