How to Fill OMR Sheet in Board Exam Class 10

One of the most important aspects to keep in mind while filling your OMR sheet is accuracy. To achieve accuracy, you need a significant amount of concentration and focus throughout your examination. In this blog, we’ll explore some important guidelines and strategies to ensure that you fill your OMR sheet correctly.

Don’ts While Filling an OMR Sheetย

Before diving into strategies, letโ€™s cover some critical donโ€™ts when filling an OMR sheet:

  1. Never fill the bubble just after answering each question: Doing this wastes a considerable amount of time and leads to a loss of concentration during your exam. You may solve a question on the question paper, then take your OMR sheet to fill the bubble, and finally return to continue solving questions. This constant switching detracts from your focus.
  2. Donโ€™t fill the bubbles in a row WITHOUT checking the question number: Many students make the mistake of bubbling answers in rows while neglecting to check the corresponding question numbers. This often leads to filling options in the wrong bubbles. For instance, you might realize your mistakes only after bubbling through 10-20 questions incorrectly. Always check the question number first, then the option number, before filling in the bubble.
  3. Be wary of misleading options: Examiners often design questions with closely related options to trick you. For example, consider a question: “What is the net resistance (in ohms) of the given circuit?” with options: (1) 2, (2) 3, (3) 4, (4) 1. If the correct answer is 3 ohms, you must ensure to bubble option (2). In a hurry, many students make mistakes, so it’s crucial to read each question carefully.
  4. Never leave bubbling for last: Filling the entire OMR sheet at the end can take around 18 to 22 minutes, especially for exams like NEET where you might tackle 180 questions. This last-minute rush can result in distraction and may cause discomfort in your wrist and fingers.

Best Strategy to Fill an OMR with Minimum Errors

To minimize errors, the most effective strategy is to fill the OMR sheet subject-wise. Hereโ€™s how to do it efficiently:

  1. Solve the questions of a particular subject: Complete all questions for one subject before moving on to the next. This helps maintain focus and reduces the likelihood of errors.
  2. Put dots instead of bubbling directly: After answering each question, put a dot (.) in the respective bubble instead of filling it in. This allows you to make corrections if you realize youโ€™ve made a mistake without wasting a bubble. For example, if you’re doing Chemistry questions from 46 to 90 and you mistakenly put a dot on option (1) for question 70, you can put a dot also on the correct option (3) without concern, as the dot will not be scanned by the OMR scanner.
  3. Bubble the dots after finishing the subject: Once youโ€™ve marked all answers with dots for that subject, go back and fill in the bubbles correctly.
  4. Move to the next subject: Repeat the above steps until the entire OMR sheet is filled.
