Before getting started, you must know the exam pattern and marking scheme to strategize your last-minute revision.ย  CBSE has provided two paper options to attempt the exam i.e., English Communicative & English Language and Literature. The patternย for both the papers i.e., English Communicative & English Language and Literature are same and are conducted forย 80ย marks each. You may choose from any of these 2 papers. Both the papers will include the three sections, which is:

Literature30

Note: From the academic year 2019-20, the CBSE has scrapped the English Communicative paper (subject code 101). From next session onwards, the students only have one option for English subject paper in Class 10 Board exam โ€“ English Language and Literature paper (subject code 184). Hacks for Section A – Reading

The Reading section (Section-A) intends to check the ability of the student to read and interpret the unseen passage, in the way they answer the given question. Two unseen passages of a total length of 700-750 words: –

  1. Factual Passages (300-350 words with eight very short answer type questions)
  2. Discursive Passages (350-400 words with four short answer type questions)

What are factual and discursive passages, how to attempt them?

A factual passage provides good clarity on the topics being discussed. In the other hand, the discursive passage will talk about any random topics that appear to have no connection with one another. It is often a challenging task to follow the changes in subject. Read the passage thoroughly.
