SOF IGKO

Last Month’s Preparation Tips for IGKO

International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO) is a written objective-type test with a duration of 60 minutes and includes 35 objective-type questions for classes 1 to 4 and 50 objective-type questions for classes 5 to 10. The question paper for all classes is divided into 4 sections. The sections are:

  • General Awareness
  • Current Affairs
  • Life Skills
  • Achievers Section

General Awareness Section

This section covers vast topics, such as Plants and Animals, India and the World, Earth, and Universe, Environment and its conservation, Science and Technology, Transport and Communication, Social Studies, Entertainment, Sports, Indian Constitution, Language and Literature, and Logical Reasoning. This is the most rewarding section of the International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO) if attempted meticulously. To score high in this section, you are supposed to be dynamic and resourceful and that can be attained when you read and practice in tandem.

The following are some tips that will help you prepare for this section:

  • Be well aware of the pattern and type of questions asked in this section. You can efficiently do this by practicing from IGKO Previous Years’ Questions.
  • Read your respective Subjects like Science (or EVS), Social Studies, and Math, and then practice from IGKO Workbook. You will understand what information is useful for the exam. The next time when you read your Subjects, you can make notes important for International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO).
  • Give more focus to Sports, Nobel Prizes, Discoveries/Inventions, Awards, General Science, and Social Studies.
  • Enroll yourself for IGKO DOPS (Daily Online Practice Sets), a 30-Day Online Programme for classes 1 to 10, in which you can assess 25 Daily Practice Sets, 3 Term Tests, and 3 Mock Tests. You will get a daily booster dose for IGKO, making your preparation active and effective.

Current Affairs Section

This section checks how updated you are! It tests the knowledge of the latest news, events, and new happenings like research and development around the world. Obviously, to attempt the questions of this section you need to be updated and for this, you must read newspapers, and magazines, watch news channels, etc.

The following are some tips that will help you prepare for this section:

  • Stay updated about the latest news and current affairs by practicing questions based on events taken in the last 2-3 months. You will benefit tremendously by solving IGKO DOPS (Daily Online Practice Sets) as it offers age-appropriate questions. This will help you to not waste time on irrelevant content and practice precisely.
  • Read your GK Textbooks keenly and practice in-text exercises thoroughly. You may also read Learning & Knowing book on GK. It gives wide and deep information on most of the topics that appear in the International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO).
  • Discuss the latest news and development with your friends regularly. The discussion makes it easier to remember facts.
  • Read news articles whether online or offline. Make your notes on the latest current affairs and revise from those.
  • Make your own journal wherein you can paste cuttings of news and infographics from newspapers and magazines. Keep your journal updated, this will help you to retain even dull information. As it says, “I hear I forget, I see I remember, I do I learn”.

Life Skills Section

This section checks life skills, the parameter of which include social skills, moral values, kindness, empathy, coping with stress, emotional intelligence, decision-making, problem-solving, time management, etc. This is one section for which you are not supposed to read from books, rather attentive practice of questions related to these topics suffices. The following are some tips that will help you prepare for this section:

  • Practice from IGKO Previous Years’ Papers to get a clear idea of the type of questions asked in this section. This will suffice your need and complete the preparation.
  • Real-life skills and moral values topics from Learning & Knowing. The series is a complete source of knowledge with skills, giving a holistic outlook.
  • Parents here play a key role, they can help their children in making the right decision in favor of everybody, be helpful to others, cope with changes and peer bullying, etc. They can lead with example by themselves being kind. Parents can do storytelling where they can inculcate in their children moral values and social skills.

Achievers Section

This section comprises Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions on the topics overall. The weightage of questions in the Achievers Section is more than in other sections, with 2 marks for classes 1 to 4 and 3 marks for classes 5 to 10.

The following are some tips that will help you prepare for this section:

  • Solve IGKO Workbook which has a separate section in each chapter for Achievers Section, categorizing HOTS questions.
  • Practice from IGKO DOPS which offers questions from all 4 sections and gives you a daily dose of learning. You can also get the IGKO Online Test Package, which has Chapter-wise Test Banks, (MCQs), and 6 Previous Years’ Papers. (Comprising both sets of SOF-IGKO), IGKO Daily Online Practice Sets, (25 SETS OF Daily Online Practice Questions), IGKO DOPS Worksheets. (4-Weekly Term Tests + 3 Practice Mock Tests) It will be an all-inclusive deal and package which will prepare you completely.
  • Practice from IGKO Previous Years’ Papers to know the type of questions asked in this section in the actual exam.

We hope this small piece of information will help in achieving big dreams. Appearing in International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO) itself will develop in you the interest and eagerness to stay updated on the latest Research & Development, Science & Technology, Events & Occasions, Earth & Universe, Language & Literature, Sports & Entertainment, and more. Read, Know, Implement, Repeat. You will love to be a resourceful being.
