NEET UG 2021: 83% Rise Among Top Scorers

Update on: 25 Nov 2021, 02:06 PM

Every year, the number of applicants for NEET-UG increases, making the competition more difficult. This year also a total of 15,44,275 aspirants has registered for the exam out of which only 8,70,081 aspirants have qualified the entrance exam. Altogether there were 3 candidates who scored a perfect score 720 by 720. The three toppers are Mrinal Kutteri (Telengana), Karthika G.Nair (Maharashtra) and ย Tanmay Gupta (Delhi).

NTA will use the tie-breaking formula for all the 3 toppers at the time of counselling. All the qualified candidates have to register for counselling and fill in their preferences for admission.

The seats will be allotted to students according to their merit & category.

Rise among top scorers in NEET in past 2 years.

The NEET-UG 2021 has seen a remarkable growth of 83% in top scorers, scoring 700 and above marks. A total of 203 candidates has secured 700 & above out of 720 marks compared to last year, with only 111 candidates that touched this range.

The cut-off for MBBS/BDS admissions has not hiked up this year as compared to 2020. It is because of the drop in the number of candidates scoring in the range of 500-699 marks as seen below in the table

The top scorers are from Delhi, Rajasthan, UP, Maharashtra, Kerala, Bihar, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Out of which candidates from Rajasthan & UP are leading in a row that qualified the NEET UG 2021 exam.

For qualifying candidates, there are approximately 81,000 MBBS and 39,000 BDS seats available for this year, which has also increased 1.4% ย from the previous year.

The competition is quite challenging, and hardly 8% would get admissions in medical and dental colleges. There would be many students who missed the train by a minimal mark. They must be sure that in the second attempt, they can clear exam the exam.

The reason behind close miss could be interpreted as

  1. Exam-taking strategy.
  2. Nervousness & confusion that lead to silly errors.
  3. A little less grip on concepts.
  4. Lack of enough practice.
