CBSE Boards 2021 : Class 10 Exams Cancelled and Class 12 Exams Postponed

India is reeling under the second wave of COVID-19 with daily infection rate of 1.8 lakh and 1000 daily deaths. From past few weeks parents and teachers were demanding the cancellation of CBSE Board exams 2021 due to COVID-19 concerns. On 14th April 2021, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) postponed the Class 12 CBSE Board exams and cancelled class 10 board exams due to COVID-19 situation.

Stakeholders and several political leaders had urged the CBSE to reschedule the exams at various levels to keep the students safe amid COVID-19. Ministry of Education cancelled class 10th Board and Postponed Class 12 Board exams after meeting with Prime Minister. Various other officials along with cabinet secretary, school and higher education secretaries attended the meeting. As per the CBSE announcement, for CBSE class 12 boards, the situation will be reviewed on June 1 and revised dates will be announced thereafter. For CBSE class 10 students, result will be prepared on the basis of an โ€œobjective criterionโ€ to be developed by the Board. Any applicant who is not contented with the marks assigned to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are favourable to hold the exams. Last year too CBSE had devised a new scheme for class 10 students.

Sources in the Education Ministry had told The News Channel that holding the examinations on time seems โ€œdifficultโ€, given the increase in fresh infections. CBSEโ€™s offline examinations were scheduled to begin on May 4.

Major highlights:

  1. CBSE class 12 boards exams scheduled to occur from May 4 are postponed.
  2. Class 12 CBSE Boards, the situation will be reviewed on June 1 and revised dates will be announced thereafter.
  3. Class 10 CBSE Board exams are cancelled which are scheduled to occur from May 4 to June 14 are cancelled.
  4. For CBSE class 10 students, result will be prepared on the basis of an โ€œobjective criterionโ€ to be developed by the Board.
  5. Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams. Last year too CBSE had devised a new scheme for class 10 students.
