Earlier admitted via cut-offs, now DU has changed the basis of admissions via a common university entrance test called CUET 2022. However, it has its benefits, so just wipe up your cold sweat! As a fellow student, you must be filled with glee. Well, why shouldn’t you? You get to choose and pick your own subjects. That’s right! Every senior secondary student is looking forward to a great year ahead in their dream college. Not just for studying, of course, since the college shapes up your whole personality and aura, a college is much more than just about studying. Therefore, getting into a college where you fit right in and learn what you desire would be a dream come true.

Moreover, for that to happen, along with very strong preparation from CUET Books, you really need to know the exam pattern and how to pick subjects for the CUET exam of 2022. Simply looking at the exam format and knowing all the sections isn’t enough. You indeed have a plethora of options, but you still need to be mindful about attempting the subjects.

Which subjects should a student select?

The majority of students must take at least one language course and up to six domain-specific subjects. The language section is split into two sections: 1A and 1B. The languages are as follows –

  • 1A – Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, and Odia.
  • 1B – French, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian, Italian, Arabic, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Konkani, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Santhali, Tibetan, Japanese, Russian, and Chinese.

There are a total of 27 domain-specific subjects. These 27 subjects have been classified into two groups: B1 and B2.

  • B1 – Accountancy/Book Keeping, Biology/Biological Studies/Biotechnology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science/Informatics Practices, Economics/Business Economics, History, Home Science, Legal Studies, Environmental Studies, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, and Sanskrit.
  • B2 – Engineering Graphics, Entrepreneurship, Knowledge Tradition Practices in India, Fine Arts/ Visual Arts/ Commercial Arts, Teaching Aptitude, Agriculture, Mass Media/Mass Communication, Physical Education/NCC/Yoga, and Performing.

How many sections should you choose in CUET 2022?

This is determined by the course you wish to take. Most candidates must take at least one language test and at least three other tests. Therefore, they can take up to six domain-specific tests, but only the best four will be considered. The dean explained that the best possible combinations will be considered when calculating their CUET score. She stated that each programme will provide students with some flexibility and choice. She mentioned that to be admitted to the majority of Delhi University’s programmes, applicants must select least of three subjects from the second section (which includes domain-specific subjects). Candidates must carefully choose their subjects so that they do not select more than one at a time. She explained that a minimum of 30% in any one language in CUET is required.

Which subjects should you choose if you want to apply for a science course?

Candidates who want to apply for science, math, and technology courses will be required to one language in the first section and take three subjects in the domain section. Their language score will not be taken into account when calculating their scores. They must, however, achieve a minimum of 30% in the language course. Furthermore, those applying for a BSc (Hons) in Botony, Biological Sciences, or Zoology must take Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects. Moreover, students applying for BSc (Hons) degrees in Chemistry, Physics, and Polymer must take Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects.

What subjects one must select if they want to apply for a mathematics course?

Students who wish to apply for courses in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics must take at least one language, mathematics, and any two subjects from B1 or B2, one of which must be from Section B1. Merit for these three courses will be based on the CUET score obtained from this combination of subjects.

Which sections to choose for Bachelors Of Arts courses?

Candidates applying for a Bachelor of Arts must select one language and three subjects from Section B1 or B2. Applicants for Philosophy, Applied Psychology, History, Sociology, Social Work, Geography, Political Science, and Psychology will take one language test, two subjects from Section B1 and one from Section B1 or B2. Apart from that, mathematics is a compulsory subject for those interested in studying economics. In addition, they will have to take one language and two other subjects from B1 or B2, one of which must be from B1.

What subjects to pick for language courses?

Students who wish to pursue language courses may take the language exam of their choice. They can, however, appear for other languages if they have not previously studied that language. For example, someone applying for French can take French in the first section and any two subjects from B1 and one subject from B1 or B2. Other language courses, such as Punjabi, follow a similar structure. Four combinations are possible for a Sanskrit course because Sanskrit is also listed under domain subjects.

How can students apply for courses such as BBA and BA?

Mathematics is a required subject for applying to BBA, BBE, and BMS courses. Section 3, the general test, is also an option for them. Similarly, students on the BEd course can take any language, two subjects from B1 and one subject from either B1 or B2. However, they must achieve a minimum of 50% on their 12th board examinations as that is the primary eligibility criteria. Those applying for BA (Program) can choose between two options: one language and three subjects, at least two of which must be from B1 and one subject from B1 or B2, and the second option being: one language, one subject from B1 or B2, and Section 3 (general test) of CUET. Moreover, students applying for a BA in Music and Physical Education will take both the CUET and a performance-based test. Those who have previously studied performing arts can attempt the performance arts questions in Section 2 of the exam. CUET and performance-based tests will be weighted equally, that is, 50:50.

Students who want to pursue vocational courses in Banking operations, Retail management and IT, Printing Technology, or Health care management have two combinations to pick from. Option 1: you can pick any one language, any two subjects from B1, or any one from B1 or B2. Option 2: any one language, any one subject from B1 or B2, and section III of CUET, which is a general test. Moreover, students who want to pursue Bachelors of Vocational Studies in Web Designing and Software Development need to select mathematics as their subject from section 2. Option 1: any one language, mathematics, any two subjects where one must be from B1. Option 2: any one language, mathematics, and section III of CUET (general test).

If a student wants to pursue B.El.Ed course, which subjects must they pick?

According to NCTE 2014 regulations, if a candidate wishes to apply for B.El.Ed., they must have obtained 50% in aggregate in their class 12th board examinations. Further, they must appear in CUET and pick any one language, two subjects from B1 and one subject from B1 or B2.
