The Central Board of Secondary Education has successfully conducted the CBSE Class 10 exam for English (language & literature) today (26 February 2024). This was the second major subject of class 10th CBSE Board exams. The exam was held at 7240 exam centers across the country and 26 countries abroad for three hours (10.30 AM to 1.30 PM). The students were advised to reach the exam centers half an hour before the commencement of the exam.
The CBSE class 10th students had their English (Language and Literature) exam today. The paper contains three sections i.e. Reading Skills, Grammar and Creative Writing Skills and Literature. The paper is of 80 marks with duration of 3 hours. It has 11 questions with enough choice. The paper is balanced and well- structured. Being the language paper, it is lengthy but easily attemptable. The main purpose of this paper is to judge students based on their textual understanding, critical and application-based skills, interpreting and creative writing skills.

In almost all the sets, 80% of the paper was easy to attempt and 20% was moderately tough exploring students’ understanding of subject with linguistic skills.
Section A
In Section A the first discursive passage was exotic in terms of content and the questions were effortlessly attainable. Whilst, the data based factual passage required understanding of interpretation of the information in order to attempt the questions. But in some of the sets, passages required more ideation and inventiveness as they had technical language.
Section B
Section B has been divided into two parts: Grammar and Creative Writing Skills. Under Grammar section, enough choice was offered to the students covering all grammar topics as the CBSE prescribed. The questions of Creative Writing Skill were not challenging and based on day- to- day occurrences. Analytical paragraph was quite easy and based on ‘Indian Students go abroad for higher studies’ that made it more interesting. On the other hand, another paragraph offered students to use their critical thinking and application skills. Moreover, inclusion of cues may help students to generate ideas and write solutions impressively.
Section C
Section C has covered almost all the chapters of syllabus through reference based, short answer and long answer type questions. Students were required to have thorough knowledge of the text in order to attempt questions. The short answer type questions were straightforward and graspable. The long answer type questions also explored writing skills of students as they were required to write answers in the form of diary entry.
On the whole, the question paper completely adhered to the Official Sample Paper issued by CBSE and the rationalized syllabus.

The Class 10 English Exam Paper Was “Easy to Moderate”
According to the class 10 students, who were seen emerging out of the exam centres at 1:30 pm, the English paper was moderate and was based on the CBSE syllabi, a student with an in-depth knowledge of the English syllabus could do well in the CBSE English exam. All that a student needed to ace the exam was a good grasp of the syllabus and a rigorous practice of the CBSE Sample paper.
Overall, The English Paper Was Weighted As “Moderate”
One teacher said that the paper was easy and in accordance with the syllabus, if students focused on the core material, they will be able to perform well.
Another teacher said that, due to it being a language exam, the paper was lengthy but with a good knowledge of subject, it can be completed on time.
According to the poll conducted on the official Twitter page of MTG, 62% of students agreed that the exam was moderate, 25% of students voted the exam paper seemed tough whereas 12% of students even voted that the paper was easy.
