Ques. Which age students can take CBSE Board Exams?

Ans. CBSE has not fixed any minimum/maximum age limit to appear in Class 10th and 12th CBSE Board exams. However, the student seeking admission to the Class 10th & 12th Board examination has to satisfy the requirement of age limits (minimum and maximum) as determined by the State/UT government and applicable to the place where the school is located. Majorly, Class 10th Students should be of age 15 Years and class 12th students should be of age 17 years.

Ques. What are the pass criteria?

Ans. The passing criteria are different for both Class 10th and 12th CBSE Board exams. A Class 10th candidate will have to secure an overall 33% (both internal assessment and Board examination taken together) whereas, a class 12th candidate will have to obtain overall 33% marks (separately in theory & practical) in the subjects to be eligible to pass that subject.

Ques. How should I improve my presentation? Are any marks given for a good presentation?

Ans. There are no separate marks for neatness or organization, but it would matter if you maintain neatness and underline important points. Ques. Can shortage of attendance be a criterion for detaining any student from an examination?

Ans. Yes, a school can detain a student in the case of a shortage of attendance of the student. A student needs at least 75% attendance in an academic session to be eligible to appear for the board examination. However, a student participating in any sports at the National Level organized by recognized Federations/ CBSE/ School Games Federation of India (SGFI), requires 60% attendance.

Ques. I am in class 12th and I have got 76% in my pre-boards. Does that mean that I cannot achieve 90% marks on boards? 

Ans. Don’t stress yourself. The best thing to do is keep putting in your best efforts. Also, if you achieved 76% in your pre-boards then with the right practice, you will easily be able to acquire 90% plus score in class 10th or class 12th CBSE Boards 2022-23. Ques. Are all candidates eligible to improve their performance post-qualifying class 10th?

Ans. Yes, all candidates are allowed to reappear even after qualifying class 10th examination of the board, but the candidate must appear as a private candidate.

Ques – Is it mandatory to pass the theory and practical examinations separately?

Ans. CBSE has introduced new passing criteria for the Class 10 examination in 2019 onwards and according to that, it is not mandatory to pass the theory and practical Examinations separately. On the other hand, class 12 candidates have to obtain overall 33% marks separately in theory and practical to qualify in that subject.

Ques – Is a candidate eligible to improve his / her performance?

Ans. Yes, a candidate who has passed the Class 12th examination of the Board can re-appear for improvement of performance in one or more subjects in the main examination next year only. The candidate may appear privately; those re-appearing for the entire examination can also appear as regular candidates if admitted by the school. The candidate(s) appearing for improvement of performance can appear in the subject(s) in which they have appeared for the Examination.

Ques – Can a candidate simultaneously appear for improvement as well as additional subject examination?

Ans. No, it is not allowed! A candidate appearing under the Improvement of Performance category cannot appear for an additional subject simultaneously.

Ques – Do the marks increase after evaluation/verification?

Ans. The marks may or may not increase after evaluation/ verification. It depends on the verification result. Sometimes it may decrease after evaluation and the candidate has to accept the new marks after evaluation.

Ques – Is a new mark sheet issued after verification?

Ans. Yes, a new mark sheet is issued in case of a change in marks. The candidate has to surrender the old marks statement. Candidates can refer to this new mark sheet for future reference.

Ques. How many chances a candidate can get for the compartment examination in class 12th CBSE Board exams?

Ans. A candidate can get subsequent three chances for compartment examination in class 12th.

Ques. Are marks deducted for missing steps in the Mathematics Class 12 exam?

Ans. Yes, marks are deducted for missing steps. Stepwise marking in CBSE depends on the number of marks a question acquires. Each step attains some marks so, it will be better to Download Marking Scheme to know about the weightage and steps and practice accordingly.

Ques. Do examiners deduct marks for exceeding the word limit and spelling mistakes, especially in language papers?

Ans. No there is no such rule to deduct marks for exceeding the word limit. But the examiner might not simply read the extra portion and hence a student might lose some marks owing to the value points in the skipped section. Therefore, students are expected to write answers within the word limit.

Ques. Does poor handwriting affect performance in the CBSE Board Exams? Is there any speed limit?

Ans. No, in the CBSE Board exam there’s nothing like bad or good handwriting. The answers should be written in such a way that they can be read easily by the examiner. There is no speed rate prescribed in the examination. It is better to divide time and plan answers while reading the question paper in the beginning. Since if you write in hurry and end up writing in non-understandable writing, then the examiner will be left with no choice but to deduct marks.

Ques. How are the question paper sets different from each other?

Ans. There are no big changes in the question of different sets of Board Question Papers. Earlier, it was set with 70% of the questions varying from one set to another, but now the questions remain largely the same, except for the sequencing.

Ques. How are the question papers set?

Ans. The CBSE Board question paper is framed, examined, and finalized in two stages. In the first stage, CBSE employs 4-5 experts for each subject, which mostly include college and school teachers, to set three versions each of question paper. Their identity is kept a secret. These experts prepare questions and send the papers in a sealed envelope to the board.

In the second stage, a high-powered committee, including university and school teachers, and principals, checks if the question papers follow the board’s standards. After their approval, final papers are sent to CBSE and printed.

Ques. What percentage of students across India come under the board?

Ans. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has declared its Class 12th results for 2022. Over 16 lakh students had appeared for CBSE Class 12 Board Exams and around 92.7 percent of students cleared the exam. According to reports, 33,000 students scored above 95 percent marks.

Ques. Is the candidate allowed to see the answer script in case the result is not as per the expectations?

Ans. No. There is no provision of showing answer scripts. The candidate can apply for scrutiny, for reconfirmation of marks.
