Important Questions and Tips to Score more than 95% in CBSE Class 12 English Core Exam

The Class 12 CBSE Boards examination are just around the corner! The English Core paper is the first exam of class 12 and is scheduled to be held on 2nd March 2019. Some students take English Subject lightly and consider it to be a breather exam as compare to other core subjects. This is why they tend to leave its preparation for the last month only. We hope you have not followed this mindset, as it is one most the most scoring subjects if taken seriously.

CBSE 12th board paper is divided into three sections: A, B and C. Students are advisable to attempt the questions in a serial manner. Scoring good marks in Class 12 English Core exam will be like a piece of cake if you follow these below section-wise tips:

Section A: Reading

Reading section will have two passages instead of three. One passage will have 5 MCQs, 9 very-short answer-type questions, and 3 short answer-type questions. The second passage will have two long-answer-type questions. This section is a scoring section. So, attempt this section at first because it is very time consuming. It consists of unseen passages along with note-making questions and answers. This section tests your ability to understand the things rather than the bookish knowledge. Hence prepare well by solving previous years papers and CBSE sample papers. Here are some tips to ace the reading section:

  1. Before you read the passage, read all the questions. This will help find your answers easily and will save lot of your time.
  2. Make reading habit every day. Practice solving one or two unseen passages every day prior to exam.
  3. Solve Class 12 English previous yearโ€™s papers and CBSE sample papers to prepare smartly.   4. Read and comprehend topics of philosophical science fiction and enhance your vocabulary.

Section B: Advanced Writing Skills

Advanced Writing Skills section will have four questions, each having an option to choose from. So, soon after finishing section A move on to this Section B because it requires a lot more thought process. Writing skills is not just about scribbling or rumbling through your question but also about the way of presenting the answers in a precise manner. Here are the evaluated tips to improve your writing skills for section B:

  1. First plan the structure of the answer and then present it properly.
  2. Avoid repetition and unnecessary jargon and stick to simple vocabulary. Keep a check on the word limit.
  3. Take the help of newspapers for advertisement writing. Also solve sample papers to get a good grip on this section.
  4. Always read the notices or pamphlets given to you on the roads and memorize important phrases. These phrases will help you writing your answer.
  5. Observe the way of invitation framing and closely understand how invitations are being framed.
  6. Remember beginnings and endings.
  7. Refer MTGโ€™s CBSE Class 12 English Core book, and conquer in essay writing, articles writing, debate and speech writing.

Section C: English Literature

The third and last section, Literature, contains 6 questions. One question is based on the poems in the prescribed CBSE Class 12th English NCERT syllabus. Also, students will have to answer four out of six short answer-type questions; they will also have options for long-answer-type questions to choose from.   4. Attempt long answers first.
  5. For novel, focus more on plot, theme and character sketch. Do not skip reading any lesson that you felt was not important.
