The International English Olympiad (IEO) exam is conducted annually to evaluate students in classes 1 to 12 and assess their English language skills. English is becoming increasingly important as a global language and proficiency in it is essential for success. Taking the IEO exam can reveal your language skills, subject knowledge, and ability to tackle challenging problems. The IEO program aims to evaluate students’ basic English skills and help them improve their language abilities through various questions. The difficulty level of the questions varies across different grades, but the syllabus remains consistent. In this post, we will provide a detailed overview of the IEO level 1 and level 2 Syllabus for Class 5.

IEO Syllabus and Exam Pattern for Class 5 (2024) Level 1

Students who are preparing for class 5 IEO will be tested on their ability to recognize and use different words and phrases, understand basic grammar rules, and comprehend simple passages.

IEO Level 1 Syllabus for Class 5 (2024)

Topics included in the SOF IEO syllabus level 1  for Class 5 are

Section Topics
Section – 1 Spellings, Collocations, Idioms, Homonyms and homophones, Synonyms, Antonyms, Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs and Phrasal Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Articles, Prepositions, Conjunctions, Punctuation, Tenses, Active-Passive Voice and Reported Speech, etc.
Section – 2 Search for and retrieve information from various text types like News headlines, Messages, Letters,  etc., Understand information given in News reports, Time-tables, Messages, etc., Acquire broad understanding of and look for specific information in short texts like messages, menu card dialogues, etc.
Section – 3 Ability to understand situation-based variations in functions like Requests, Refusals, Apologies, etc.
Section – 4 Higher Order Thinking Questions – Syllabus as per Sections 1, 2 and 3.

The marking scheme for Class 5 level 1 IEO exam is given below

IEO Level 2 Syllabus for Class 5 (2024)

Topics included in the SOF IEO syllabus level 2 for Class 5 is divided into 3 sections are as below
