A big update for CUET 2025 students! As per the latest guidelines released by the UGC Chairman, many changes have been introduced for CUET 2025. The changes are aimed at improving the efficiency of CUET. Also, it is likely to standardize the admission process even further. CUET conducting authorities the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the National Testing Agency (NTA) have made the exam more flexible now for students.
Now appear for only 5 subjects
As per the new changes, students need to appear for only 5 subjects now as opposed to 6 till now. This major change has been brought keeping in mind more flexibility for students. As per UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar, this step is aimed at streamlining the exam process and tackling the logistical issues linked with holding multiple tests across different disciplines. Besides, there are many other significant changes going to take place in CUET 2025.
No Hybrid mode, Only Computer-based test (CBT)
Now, CUET will be held only as a Computer Based Test (CBT) as a part of the complete overhaul of the entrance exam for admission to major universities in India. Moreover, the number of subjects has been brought down to 37 from erstwhile 63.
Fixed time duration of 60 minutes
Earlier, depending on the subject, the exam duration used to be 45 to 60 minutes. But now the time duration of CUET exam has been standardized to 60 minutes. Apart from this, students can appear for any subject notwithstanding their stream in class 12.

No more optional questions
Another major modification has been introduced by doing away with the optional questions. Now, students have to attempt all the questions as the concept of optional questions won’t exist anymore. All the questions have been made compulsory now. As per UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar, admission for the dropped subjects will be held based on the scores of the General Aptitude Test (GAT).
