Union Education ministry administered a high-level meeting with all the State Education Ministers on May 23, 2021, to decide on CBSE class 12 pending Board exams. Earlier, CBSE cancelled the class 10 Board exams and deferred class 12 exams due to the continuing COVID-19 second wave.
The meeting was held to decide on the cancellation or conduction of the CBSE Class 12 Board exams. A section of students/parents was demanding exam cancellations on various social media platforms. In the meeting, CBSE Proposed conducting exams between July 15 and August 26, 2021, and result declaration by September.
CBSE Proposed two options to conduct class 12 CBSE Board exams:
Option 1: Exams can be held for only or few subjects.
Option 2: Exam duration can be changed from 1.5 hours instead of 3 hours.
A majority of states preferred the latter option, while some recommended a mix of both options. If Option 2 is applied by CBSE, then the exam pattern needs to be changed. If the exam duration is 1.5 hours, then the examination should contain MCQs or very short answer type questions to allow students to finish the exam on time.
As per the news, the CBSE Class 12 exam will be conducted in two phases. If a student is unable to attend the phase 1 exams, then she/he will be able to appear in the second phase exam. The report highlights that Phase 1 is proposed between July 15 to August 2 and the second phase from August 8 to August 26. The results announcement will take place within 15 days of exam conduction.
Some states like Delhi, Maharashtra, and Kerala proposed vaccinating Class 12 students before the exam in the meeting. The final decision is awaited till June 1. There is no relief to Class 12 students on cancellation of Board exams, and CBSE board exams will be conducted amid COVID-19 under strict precautions and safety measures. The central government asked the state governments to submit conclusive feedback by May 25, 2021. The education ministry will declare the final decision after receiving definitive statements from all.
