English is the most spoken language worldwide. It is the most crucial part of education as well as one’s day-to-day life. Recognizing the cruciality of the language and to help the students stay propelled to learn this language, the SOF conducts English Olympiads for students of various classes at par levels.

The main motive of the Science Olympiad Foundation behind conducting the IEO exam is to give students, the opportunity to get their language skills acknowledged and appreciated at national and international levels.  Through various certificates, medals, cash rewards, and national/ International recognition ranks, the SOF motivates  students to continuously learn and improve in the field of the English language.

What is the SOF-International English Olympiad?

Science Olympiad Foundation is India’s biggest Olympiad conducting Organization that conducts the International English Olympiad at an international level to evaluate the students of classes 1-12 based on their cognizance of the English Language.

Eligibility Criteria for SOF-IEO

The International English Olympiad is a level-wise talent search test.  Many students believe that they need to fulfill some criteria to appear for the exam. However, all the students from classes 1-12 can sit for the level-1 SOF-IEO exam of their respective classes.

Thereafter, to sit for SOF-IEO level 2, the students should  meet the following eligibility criteria-

  1. The top 5% class-wise students who appeared at the national level 1 SOF-IEO exam can sit for the level 2 exam.
  2. Top 25 rank holders of the zonal regions of-IEO level 1 can participate in the SOF-IEO level 2 exam.
  3. If 10 or more students are participating from a school, the class toppers (with a score of more than 50%, in the SOF-IEO level 1 exam) of each class can sit for the level 2 exam.

The SOF IEO level 2 is conducted only for the students of classes 3-12 and for the classes 1 & 2, the results are concluded from the level 1 exam itself.

What are the benefits for the students who are sitting for SOF-IEO?

Language is a very miscalculated subject. Ever since the students start attending their respective schools, English is introduced as a subject. However, there are hardly any independent exams to evaluate the students’ knowledge of the same.

At this point, taking the SOF-IEO exam benefits students in multiple ways. Some of the ways are mentioned below-

  1. The students are motivated to learn the English Language and Grammar with a deeper understanding.
  2. The students are provided with the International level ground for the competition which instills in them confidence to face the competitions coming in the future.
  3. Sitting for the SOF- International English Olympiad helps the students to explore their interests in the field of literature while at the same time strengthening their inclination toward the English language.
  4. Various benefits such as medals, certificates, cash prizes, and SPR (Students Performance Report) are provided to the students. Through the SPR, the students can evaluate their weak and strong areas hence, getting an idea of where they need improvement.

What are the dates of SOF-IEO 2024-25?

The Science Olympiad Foundation has released the exam dates for the IEO session 2024-25 on its official website. However, it is to be noted that the students CAN NOT choose the dates to take the exam. The dates can be chosen by the school authorities only.

The 3 exam dates for SOF-IEO are as under,

Date 1 26th September
Date 2 8th October
Date 3 8th November

How can a student register for the SOF-IEO?

For the SOF-IEO 2024-25, students can only register in an offline mode through their respective schools. However, in case the school has not registered for the SOF Olympiad, the students can share the important information about the school on the SOF page.

The authorities at SOF will further connect with the officials of the school for registration.

What is the syllabus and exam pattern of the SOF-IEO exam?

The syllabus of the IEO exam is mostly the same as the respective class-wise syllabus of ICSE/ CBSE/ IB/ and State Boards. A student with a good understanding of the core concepts of their class-wise syllabus can perform well in this International level English Test.

The important point to be noted about the exam pattern of IEO is as follows-

  • The exam shall be held within the school hours at the students’ respective schools.
  • For class 1st– 4th, the paper comprises 35 Objective questions. On the other hand, for classes 5th -12th, 50 questions shall be asked within 1 hour.
  • The IEO paper for each class has independent papers in a single language.
  • The exam paper on all the three dates as mentioned above, will be different. Hence, there will be 3 sets of papers in the International English Olympiad.

How can students prepare for SOF-IEO?

English has a vast ground for learning. The Olympiad exam questions are carved from the actual CBSE/ICSE/IB and other boards’ syllabus of respective classes. But, how shall a student of a particular board participate and perform efficiently in the international level talent test?
