CLASS ELIGIBILITY  The SOF IMO is open to students studying in classes 1 to 12. Students within this range are eligible to participate in the Olympiad. This allows young learners from various grade levels to engage in the competition and showcase their mathematical abilities.

 

SCHOOL AFFILIATION The participating school must be affiliated with a certified education board, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), or the State Board. This requirement ensures that the participating schools meet the educational standards necessary to provide a suitable academic environment for the students.

Level 1 IMO Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for Level 1 Olympiad Exam: All students from classes 1 to 12 can participate in the Level 1 exam of the SOF IMO. This initial level is conducted within the respective schools during school hours, providing a convenient and inclusive platform for students to showcase their mathematical skills.

Level 2 IMO Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for Level 2 Olympiad Exam: To be eligible for the Level 2 exam, students must qualify based on their performance in the Level 1 exam. The qualifiers for Level 2 include the top 5% of candidates internationally, the top 25 rank holders from each zone and class at the zone/state level, and the class topper from each participating school where at least 10 students from a class appear in the exam and score at least 50% qualifying marks. Q. 1 How can schools register for the SOF IMO?

Any school can register as a centre for SOF IMO Level 1. No fee is required from the institution to become a registered examination centre. Prospectus and registration forms are sent to all registered schools. Schools not registered may request the prospectus by emailing info@sofworld.org or calling 0124-4951200.

Q. 2. What is the registration fee for the SOF IMO?

Schools in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal pay a registration fee of Rs 125* (including GST) per student/Olympiad. Additional fees may be charged by schools for in-charge honorarium, teacher remuneration, and other expenses. Students with major physical disabilities or Indian students whose parents were martyred during defence operations are exempt from the fee. For schools in countries other than India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal, the registration fee is $9* per student, with an additional fee of $1** per student.

The Olympiad comprises multiple-choice questions where students are presented with various options and must choose the answer, they believe to be correct. It is essential for students to bring their pens and pencils to complete the examination.

Q. 5. Which is the hardest Olympiad exam?

SOF IMO – International Mathematics Olympiad is considered to be the most difficult exam as it contains mostly numerical questions.

Q. 6. Who gets gold medal in SOF Olympiads?

Medals of Excellence will be awarded on following criteria:

  • All students scoring 100% marks will be awarded Gold Medal of Excellence.
  • For 5 to 9 students writing the exam from a class – Gold Medal of Excellence to top rank holder in class.
  • For 10 to 25 students writing the exam from a class – Gold Medal of Excellence to top 3 rank holders.
  • For more than 25 students writing the exam from a class – Gold Medal of Excellence to top 10% rank holders in class.

Students of classes 1st to 12th are eligible to appear for the SOF IMO. There is no other eligibility criterion like minimum marks.
