CUET Exam Eligibility – Check For Combined University Entrance Test Eligibility

Update on: 16 May 2025, 12:32 PM

The Combined University Entrance Test or CUET, organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is a national-level entrance exam for admission to undergraduate (UG) courses offered by central universities or other universities (State, Private, Deemed or autonomous institutions). The exam covers a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the Class 12 syllabus, eliminating the need for distinct preparation for candidates currently studying in Class 12.

CUET Eligibility Criteria

The NTA has rules about who can participate in the Combined University Entrance Test. These rules make sure that everyone has an equal chance to compete. Now let’s look at these rules in more detail:

  • Class Eligibility:  The general candidates should have passed Class 12 with a minimum aggregate of 50% to become eligible for CUET. On the other hand, candidates belonging to reserved categories SC/ST/OBC should have an aggregate of 45%.
  • Age Limit:According to the CUET eligibility criteria, there is no age limit for CUET.

However, it must be noted that the CUET participating universities will have distinct eligibility for CUET as per their colleges.

Benefits of Participating in CUET

For long, marks secured in class 12 were the primary parameter to get admission in the country’s majority of the universities. This used to hamper the dream of thousands of students who, for some reason were not able to score enough marks, were left bereft of entry to make it to the list of their favourite university or college. Also, there was a huge difference in the marking scheme of different boards leading to inconsistency in providing admission to students. Considering this flaw in the admission process, the central government introduced CUET in 2022 for the first time leading to the democratization of the admission process for UG courses.
