MTG : Why did you choose Medical Entrance?

Nalin: I had interest in all Science subjects (especially Biology) from the beginning. Also, Medical is a very nice and noble profession.

MTG : What exams you have appeared for and what is your rank in these exams?

Nalin: I appeared for NEET securing 1st rank. I also appeared for AIIMS and JIPMER securing 73rd and 220th rank, respectively.

MTG : How did you prepare for NEET and other medical exams?

Nalin: I took two years’ coaching from ALLEN Career Institute. I primarily focused on NCERT because questions in NEET are based on NCERT topics mainly. I followed the material provided by coaching with full dedication.
I also focussed on solving previous years’ papers of NEET and JEE Main.
I studied MTG 31 Years NEET • AIPMT Chapterwise Solutions and MTG NCERT at Your Fingertips Biology for that.

How to make most out of NEET Biology Books

MTG : What basic difference did you find in various papers you cleared?

Nalin: I found NEET paper fairly easy and if one has studied NCERT thoroughly and solved previous years’ papers, NEET is easy to crack.

AIIMS on the other hand has very high level and tough questions, one has to do deeper study and also manage time well for AIIMS.

MTG : How many hours in a day did you study to prepare for the examination?

Nalin: Apart from coaching I used to study 6-7 hours daily. On holidays
I used to devote even more time.

MTG : On which topic and chapters you laid more stress in each subject?

Nalin: One has to master all topics in order to clear NEET and AIIMS.

Initially Rotational Motion in Physics was my weak point but later I mastered it as well. One should study all topics of each subject.

MTG : How much time does one require for serious preparation for the exam?

Nalin: I would suggest to begin serious preparation from Class-11 and study diligently for 6-7 hours apart from coaching.

MTG : Which subjects/topics you were strong/weak at?

Nalin: Initially I was weak in Physics but ultimately, I mastered it as well. My preparation of Biology and Chemistry was strong from the beginning.

MTG : Which Books/Magazines/Tutorial/Coaching Classes you followed?

Nalin: I took two years’ coaching from ALLEN Career Institute and relied on the material provided by them. H.C. Verma for Physics is also very helpful. MTG NCERT at Your Fingertips Biology was very helpful. For previous years’ questions MTG 31 Years NEET • AIPMT Chapterwise Solutions was very helpful.

MTG : In your words what are the components of an ideal preparation plan?

Nalin: One should do multiple readings of each topic and clear their concepts. I would suggest to study a topic from one reliable source rather than referring to various books or materials. NCERT and coaching material proved to be sufficient for me.

MTG : What role did the following play in your success:

(a)   Parents         (b) Teachers     (c) School.

Nalin: Parents : My parents provided me immense moral support. They always encouraged me even when my rank in coaching went down. They never let me feel depressed and always fulfilled all my needs.

Teachers : Faculties at my coaching centre were very supportive and they always cleared my doubts.

School : School was also very supportive and NCERT was covered very well at my school.

MTG : Your family background?

Nalin: Both my parents are doctors and my brother is pursuing MBBS from Jodhpur Medical College.

MTG : What mistake you think you shouldn’t have made?

Nalin: I should have studied NCERT of Physics and Chemistry as well from 11th class which I started from 12th Class. Concepts should be cleared from starting and one should do repeated revisions. Cramming never helps, so one should concentrate on understanding the topic and clearing doubts.

MTG : How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? Share your hobbies and how often could you pursue them?

Nalin: While preparing for NEET, for two years I did not pursue my hobbies. But to relax and refresh myself, I used to talk to my friends and parents. I also used to listen to music. The environment at coaching was very relaxed so I never felt stressed.

MTG : Was this your first attempt?

Nalin: Yes, it was my first attempt.

MTG : Had you not been selected then what would have been your future plan?

Nalin: My aim had always been to be in Medical profession. So, I would have prepared and attempted again next year.

MTG : What advice would you like to give to our readers who are PMT aspirants?

Nalin: My advice for future aspirants would be to be thorough with NCERT by doing multiple readings till all the concepts in all subjects are clear. Also, solving previous years’ papers is very helpful.
