Maharashtra CET  to Be Held Twice a Year from 2026 – What Students Need to Know

Update on: 13 Nov 2025, 03:37 PM

The Maharashtra Higher & Technical Education Department has announced an important change for CET aspirants. In a recent update shared by Higher & Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) for key courses will now be conducted twice a year from 2026.

Which exams are covered?

According to the announcement, the State Common Entrance Test Cell will hold CET twice a year for the following streams:

  • PCM – Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (Engineering & related courses)
  • PCB – Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Health sciences & related courses)
  • MBA – Management programmes

This is a major student-friendly decision aimed at reducing exam pressure and giving aspirants more flexibility.

Two exams, one best score

  • The first CET will be conducted in April 2026.
  • The second CET will be held in May 2026.

Students will have to appear for the first exam (April).
The second exam (May) will be optional.

If a student appears in both exams, the higher of the two scores will be considered for admission. This is similar to the “best of two attempts” approach followed in other national-level exams and will help students who may have had an off day in one attempt.

Why is this Good News for Students

  1. Less pressure, more chances – You’re no longer dependent on a single exam day.
  2. Scope for improvement – Didn’t perform as expected in April? You get another shot in May.
  3. Better planning – Students can use the gap between the two attempts to analyse their performance and strengthen weak areas.

How MTG can help you prepare

At MTG, we understand how crucial CET is for your career. With two attempts now available, smart preparation and continuous practice become even more important.

  • Build strong concepts in Physics, Chemistry, Maths & Biology from MTGs MHT CET books range.
  • Solve chapter-wise and full-length practice tests to simulate the CET pattern.
  • Analyse your performance after every test to decide whether you should go for the second attempt and what to focus on if you do.
