States Reopening Schools from January 2021

Soon after the CBSE board exam dates announcement, states reopened schools from January 2021. Schools across the country are shut down since March 2020 to protect students from COVID19. After almost 10 months, various states are now ready to reopen schools under COVID19 guidelines. This decision is taken due to CBSE board exams and various state board exams are needed to conduct in the first half of the year 2021.

The Ministry of Home Affairs allowed gradual schools reopening under COVID-19 safety guidelines, as per the discretion of the respective state government. States are opening schools for class X & XII Board exam students to prepare for conducting pre-board and practical. States including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim had reopened their schools for Classes 10 and 12 last year in December itself after preparing as per the COVID-19 protocol. While for the rest of the students, the schools opened from 1st January 2021.

States Reopening Schools from January 2021

  1. Bihar โ€“ Schools in Bihar are reopened from 4th January 2021 for students of Class IX to XII. Bihar state government is also reopening coaching centres, degree colleges, medical colleges, and engineering colleges.
  2. Karnataka โ€“ from 1st January 2021 Schools in Karnataka state are opened from class VI to XII. Students need to have a signed consent letter from their parents, to attend the classes,
  3. Assam โ€“ As COVID19 situation is under control in Assam state. It is now ready to open all the educational institutes from January. Schools for all the classes reopened on 1st January 2021.
  4. Puducherry โ€“ Schools in Puducherry reopened from 4th January 2021 with half day classes. After 18th January, schools will run on full day classesโ€™ basis.
  5. Pune โ€“ Schools in the city are reopened from 4th January 2021 for Class IX to XII under COVID19 guidelines.
  6. Rajasthan โ€“ Schools reopened for class X to XII in December 2020 with 50% students called on alternate basis. The rest of the school reopened on January 1. The state did not declared dates for state board exams. Colleges and universities will reopen from 18th January 2021.
  7. Uttar Pradesh โ€“ The state reopened the Schools for Class X & XII in December 2020. Date sheet of UP State board exams is yet not released.
  8. Odisha โ€“ Odisha state reopened schools for Class X & XII from 8th January 2021. Practical exams for class X will be conducted from 27th April to 2nd May 2021 and for Class XII from 29th April to 14th May 2021. Theory exam dates are 3rd May 2021 to 11th June 2021.
  9. Jharkhand โ€“ State reopened schools in December only for Class IX to XII and will conduct state board exams from 9th March to 26th March 2021.
  10. Goa โ€“ School reopened on Goa from 21st Nov 2020 under COVID19 protocols for Class X & XII. Goa state board exams will be conducted from 24th April 2021.
  11. Punjab – It reopened its schools and universities in December for physical classes along with Haryana.
  12. Kerala – It reopened its schools for only Classes 10 and 12 from January 4 onward for a limited number of hours each day.
  13. Gujarat โ€“ The state government has issued COVID-19 guidelines for schools and colleges and allowed students Classes X and XII after parentsโ€™ consent.
  14. Maharashtra โ€“ It have still not issued any guidelines over reopening of schools.
  15. Delhi โ€“ Schools are reopening from 18th January 2021 for Class X & XII.
