14 Impersonators Arrested in Bihar after NEET-UG 2024 Paper Leak

Update on: 07 May 2024, 02:56 PM

Bihar is in the news for all the wrong reasons – NEET 2024 Paper Leak. Apparently, the Bihar police have detained 14 impersonators and several candidates for the alleged paper leak and extensive cheating during the NEET-UG 2024. During the NEET exam, the arrested individuals were impersonating registered candidates. The arrests took place in several districts – 8 in Katihar, 4 in Purnia, 2 in Vaishali, and one each in Gopalganj and Patna. The police have found that the impersonating candidates allegedly took payments ranging from Rs 5 to 10 lakh each from a gang behind the cheating scam.

In Patna, the authorities caught two examinees red-handedly solving the question papers with the help of seized answer sheets. FIRs have been filed against the examinees and others involved in the act under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, relating to criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy. Rajeev Mishra, Patna SSP, informed that investigations were under process to find if the question papers were leaked before the NEET 2024 exam. A few hours before the exam began, the police got information about the probable leak.

Moreover, the police suspect that the paper leak gang took between Rs 30 to 50 lakh from many candidates in lieu of offering them question papers for memorization in lodges across Patna. On Monday, the police conducted raids in several hotels and lodges which led to the discovery of implicating documents. Many other apprehensions were made in Katihar, where police arrested seven solvers from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Similarly, four impersonators were marked and arrested during biometric tests in Purnia.

However, amid all the claims of paper leaks, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has denied the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak.
