The Central Board of Secondary Education has concluded the class 12 Chemistry exam today, (27th February 2024). The CBSE Class 12 Chemistry exam was held at 7250 CBSE Exam Centres in the country from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The students were advised to arrive at their respective exam centres half an hour prior to the exam i.e. at 10.00 a.m. along with their respective admit cards, stationaries, and water bottles.

As per the sample paper, the maximum mark in Class 12 Chemistry is 70 and the duration is three hours.

  • There are 33 questions in the question paper divided into 5 sections.
  • SECTION A consists of 16 multiple-choice questions carrying 1 mark each.
  • SECTION B consists of 5 short answer questions carrying 2 marks each.
  • SECTION C consists of 7 short answer questions carrying 3 marks each.
  • SECTION D consists of 2 case-based questions carrying 4 marks each.
  • SECTION E consists of 3 long answer questions carrying 5 marks each

The use of log tables and calculators is not allowed

Brief Exam Analysis By MTG Experts

After diligent observation of the question paper, the level of the exam was found intellectual and moderate. The questions were tricky but the majority of the questions were from NCERT and any student with in-depth knowledge of the textbook will come up with good marks.

Section A comprised direct and easy MCQ questions from NCERT as well as some competency-based questions.

Section B comprised questions that were moderate and direct.

Section C was slightly tough and thinking-based.

Section D included case-based questions that were memory-based and conceptual and could be directly answered without reading the given passage.

Section E included long answer type questions out of which 2 or 3 marks are from numerical type questions from the chapter “Solutions”.

Numerical problems that were asked from electrochemistry and chemical kinetics were of standard quality. Overall question paper was moderate and a combination of remembering, understanding, and analytical skills.

Most of the questions were the same or similar from mtg Chemistry Today Magazine & CBSE Champion 10 Years Papers.

The Class 12 Chemistry exam paper was “Moderate to Tough”

“I had prepared a lot for the exam but it still took me time to write all the questions as they were tricky”, said one of the students.

A student dedicated the lengthiness of the paper to the numerical asked in the exam. “The numerical part in the chemistry exam was a bit time-consuming and difficult”, he said.

PGT Chemistry teacher, who reviewed the Chemistry paper marked the paper as easy to moderate saying that the question paper was completely from NCERT. Though numerical were lengthy and some were slightly tricky, a student who was attentive in class and had read from the NCERT textbooks will be able to score well in the exam,” he added.

According to Dr. Neelima Kamrah, Principal of KIIT World School, Gurugram, the chemistry paper was balanced with an overall moderate difficulty level making the exam challenging yet doable for the students. The question paper focused on the differentiation between students’ understanding and application skills.

Overall, The Chemistry Paper Was Weighted As “Tough”

According to the poll conducted on the official Twitter page of MTG, 36% of students agreed that the exam was moderate, 45% of students voted the exam paper seemed moderate whereas 18% of students even voted that the paper was easy.

Concluding

All the exam paper analyses from students, parents, and MTG’s Twitter poll concludes that the exam was “Medium to Tough”. The difficulty of the paper has been inclined towards medium because the paper was lengthy and tricky.

The Class 12 students who have not been able to do well in the exam must not be demotivated and must start to prepare for the next major subject’s exam i.e., Physics which is to be held on 4th March 2024. Students must also remember that class 12 board outcomes are not the only outcomes to define their career ahead. Life is the name of opportunities and we must grab each of them wherever possible. The good news is- you are NOT doomed if your class 12 outcomes are not very good! You still have CUET exams at your hand along with NEET & JEE.
