5 Reasons Why You Feel Demotivated to Study and How to Overcome It

Does thinking about studies worry you too much? Or there are times you feel demotivated when you sit for studies? Well! Most of us have undergone such a phase, when the clock ticks fast and we sit blank staring at the books, don’t even seem to budge. In reality, after getting lost in thoughts, the motivation for studies seems to vanish completely. There can be many other possible reasons for feeling uninterested to study. 1. Lack of Long – Term Goals

Setting goals is good but having a vision or long term goals is the purpose of our life. We must be clear what we want from our life, where we want to be 10 years from now. Some call it retirement plans, but it is like having plans A, B and C ready to face each and every situation. Now when you are clear of the idea of what exactly you seek in education, career and future, you should develop good habits to adhere to your plans. Developing study habits for success, like making study plans, following it strictly, taking short breaks in between studying time, doing recreational activities, seeking help from teachers and friends for studies, etc are some of the good habits.

2. All Work And No Play

Don’t be too overwhelmed with assignments, projects and exams. All have to face them, but you should not get so engrossed that you eventually develop a phobia of studying. Rather, take adequate me-time in between your study schedule. Take out time to rejuvenate your mind and soul. Your study shouldn’t intimate you. Whatever it may be, you should study to learn and not to mug books to get some score for just namesake. 3. Stress

As discussed, you don’t need to kill yourself in exam time. The exam time can make anybody go haywire and stressed. Stress and anxiety often reduce the energy levels and make students become sloppy. In order to keep stress aside, students must indulge in meditation, yoga and simply go for a walk. Scientifically also meditation and walk releases endorphin and serotonin in our body which are happy hormones.  They physiologically relax our nerves and help us in adopting positive attitudes.

4. Using the inappropriate learning style

If you follow all above suggested practices but still, not able to develop interest then, you must check with your learning style. Best learning style is to study every single day without fail, and not delay it for the exam time. If you spend an hour daily on each subject, and not procrastinate, you will not get deterred from studying in exam time.  Apart from this, everyone has their own learning style in which they can adapt the things smoothly for long term. Thus, you need to work on your learning style, it may be visual, auditory or kinesthetic.

Understanding and implementing your own style of learning will help you to bring your concentration on track and score high in your exams. And that’s how you unlock your brain power and regain maximum of what you have learnt.

5. Progress is Not Visible

Even after studying hard you don’t see much progress in results can be a major reason for not feeling motivated to study and lend more effort to it. Keep your goal achievable and as said enjoy short-term goals to reach a long term goal. Try not to be too hard on yourself. You are your best critic, so push yourself when you feel demotivated and try to be flexible with your approach to achieve your goal.
