What Has Officially Changed for NEET UG 2026
1. New Registration & Verification Process
-
Aadhaar‑based eKYC is now mandated during registration — this wasn’t part of the process earlier. Candidates must verify identity using Aadhaar details online.
-
Live photo capture at the time of registration has been introduced — candidates must capture a real‑time photo, not just upload a photo file (aimed to reduce fraud/impersonation).
-
Registration now includes smarter allocation of exam cities and preferred languages in a more authenticated way.
Impact: Stronger identity checks and reduced chance of impersonation or misuse of application details — this is a significant shift from past years.

2. Exam City Selection Changes
-
Previously, students could choose multiple city preferences (usually up to 4).
-
For 2026, only one city choice is allowed, and that selection is verified against Aadhaar details to ensure it matches the candidate’s address and identity.
Impact: Candidates have less flexibility when choosing exam centres — but improved alignment with their actual address.

3. Syllabus Has Been Revised
-
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially released a revised NEET UG 2026 syllabus.
-
The updated curriculum includes changes to topics and weightage across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Some older topics are removed and new ones added, affecting preparation strategy.
Impact: Aspirants must update their study plans to match the latest curriculum — outdated notes or older syllabi may no longer be fully relevant.
Exam Pattern — Quick Overview
- Mode: Offline (Pen & Paper)
- Duration: 3 hours
- Questions: 180 (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
- Marking Scheme: +4 for correct, –1 for incorrect
- Languages: Available in multiple Indian languages
